Silvercreek Realty Group continues efforts to uplift and strengthen communities throughout the state of Idaho. This quarter we show our LOVE FOR LITERACY.
LITERACY AWARENESS
Idaho has an 89.50 literacy rate. While this is higher than many other states in the nation, this still leaves 268,000 Idahoans without the critical skill of reading, comprehending written information, and the many benefits this brings. The pandemic has further complicated this issue for children and adults due to school closures, limited in-person education, and non-profit literacy organizations struggling with funding, volunteers, and more.
We are thrilled to partner with several organizations to create awareness of literacy needs – and support services available throughout the state. Financial donations will also be awarded to selected organizations to support their mission and programs.
BOOK DRIVE
One of the goals of our effort is to get books into the hands of kids. The Idaho Commission for Libraries shares that many Idaho children do not have access to an adequate home library to make them proficient readers. We are working with local schools and shelters to help meet this need. Additionally, we are providing books to seniors and other adults in need.
LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES
Little Free Libraries are 24/7 mini libraries that are hosted by individuals, families, schools, churches, and organizations. Built as a little house that sits on a post, these libraries are as creative as those who build them. Within the house are books offered as a “take a book, leave a book” program. These libraries expand no-cost book access to anyone who walks, drives, or rides by. This is all wrapped up in the vision of a book for every reader.
Through our Silvercreek community, we have a goal to sponsor and host 10+ Little Free Libraries throughout the state.
GET INVOLVED
It takes a village to make a meaningful impact and WE NEED YOUR HELP! There are many ways you can get involved:
- BOOK DRIVE: Drop off books at any of our Silvercreek offices from February 7th-March 15th. We are accepting new and gently used books. Children, teen, and adult books from all genres are welcome. (Office locations: Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Nampa, Twin Falls, Idaho Falls, Pocatello, and Coeur d’Alene).
- LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES: We are looking for donations, people to build a library, and others to host a library in their neighborhood, at their school, park, or business. Contact Kristin Cole to learn more.
- FINANCIAL DONATION: Any amount makes a difference! Venmo @silvercreekgives or donate through PayPal with a debit or credit card.
